The Feeling of Remembering
Ophelia Klein
Maybe I should’ve known it was going to end
When I asked you
Where my freckles were placed
And you laughed and replied
I can love you and not have
The placement of your freckles memorized
But as someone who looks at bodies like they’re constellations
I wanted to know you were watching the stars
And picking your favorite
And of course I dismissed myself
As having unfair expectations
But when you don’t think a shooting star is beautiful enough to remember
How strong is the foundation
