Lavender Mornings

Liz Jacoby

turned into flaneurs’ evenings on Taylor Street
the smell of Al’s Beef
as thick as summer air
pushed around by busses and cars
and ambling humans
on nights as clear as the shoreline of North Avenue Beach
not even the horns and sirens could tatter
the bliss
or lay bare the broken hearts
that were inevitable
swept away in the leaves on Racine Avenue each Fall.
