heartbreak

Presley Wiseman

how does one justify heartbreak?

“you needed the pain”

“it was bound to happen someday”

  “maybe you’re insane”

breakup or a death

really, they’re the same

one chose to leave you in the dark

            the other           blown away

grief really loves to grip my heart

its fingers pump these veins

or hold each piece together

so, who am i to complain?

            motivate me, please

at least to some degree

as i’m screaming on my knees–

            say you want to leave

“you were never really there”

get out of your own head

                                                                                                            “you’re a liar and a cheat”

they’re the reason my lyrics bled

  it only took a week

had the funeral then discovered

that maybe i still love you…

i can’t believe i lost my brother

            God,

i love to suffer

just an adrenaline junkie

            but after this

i’m through

with risks

no

more

putting

them

above

me—
