A Requiem

Feyi Oshinyemi

The bruises from your shoulders to your elbows are
a map to ascension,
underneath your grandeur, I witness God.
Sun sets of brown irises as the moon plays into your smirk. I,
recognize your soul.
Drowned in volcanic eruptions,
skin sunken underneath fingernails,
swings of light sway back and forth in a dark void,
you birth our children with every push.
Venus descends into Mars as hands lock with
ancestral children,
chains of brass shattered.
Finally, free.
